Inflammation and Autoimmune Disease Models
Basic Information
Inflammation is a physiological response process of the immune system to injury and infection. During this process, signals are sent to immune cells to promote the healing and repair of damaged tissues and protect the body from infectious factors such as viruses and bacteria. However, prolonged or excessive activation of inflammation can also be detrimental to the body and lead to pathogenicity. Chronic inflammation is a major cause of various diseases, such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD: Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, etc). Psoriasis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)、Psoriasis, asthma, etc.
Autoimmune diseases refer to a series of disorders where the immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues and organs. This autoimmune response typically involves adaptive immune dysregulation against self-antigens, often mediated by B lymphocytes and T lymphocytes. The immune response of the body to foreign antigens typically results in their clearance. However, when there is an immune response against self-cell or tissue antigens, the body's own cells or tissues are not easily eliminated by the effector cells of the immune system and instead continuously come under attack. As a result, the body enters a diseased state. Common autoimmune diseases include systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA), etc.
